KERRY THE CATHOLIC

Well, I’m back, thanks for the vacation. There’s a little article in Time this week about John Kerry and his tepid Catholicism. The Church has come down strong in the past year on supposedly Catholic politicians who routinely support and vote in very un-Catholic ways, like supporting stem-cell research and against any and all bills that may restrict abortion. Guess who fits into this category – that’s right, the Democrat front-runner.

Kerry has fought back by crying, “Separation of Church and state!!!” and mentioning his Sunday services and that he carried a rosary in Vietnam (He was in Vietnam?!? – Never heard that before). He calls upon the ghost of the first JFK to exorcise the Church’s questions and routinely flaunts the Church by receiving Communion without true Confession.

What Kerry is to stupid to understand or too dishonest to admit, there is NO separation between religious life and political life. True religious people understand that religious beliefs are just that – beliefs. You can’t just turn off a belief. You can’t go to Church every Sunday and nod gravely as the priest speaks of the sanctity of life at conception and then go vote against the Violence Against Unborn Victims Act and reconcile the two. Yet, John Kerry and splinter groups like Catholics for Kerry try to do just that.
